A POSITIVE TO YOUR NEGATIVE
Rachel Pierce
Rachel Pierce grew up in Sugar Land, Texas and currently lives in Houston, Texas. She is the daughter of NBA All-Star Ricky Pierce and former member of the 5th Dimension, Joyce Wright Pierce. Rachel is a spring 2014 graduate from Stephen F. Austin State University. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism with a concentration in Public Relations, minoring in Kinesiology.
She was the No. 25-ranked player in Texas as a junior player in the super champ 18's division. In college at UALR: Played No. 5 and 6 singles for the Trojans and all three doubles positions before settling in at the No.1 spot as a freshman during the 2011-12 season. Rachel ended her freshman season at UALR as one of only three Trojans to finish with a singles record above .500. Her sophomore season was cut short due to injury.
Rachel was one of two team captains of the SFA Ladyjack tennis team her senior year, and as a student-athlete she knows how to balance her time well. She has been on the dean’s list three semester’s with a gpa as high as 3.7 and was also named an ITA scholar athlete by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
Rachel worked as a staff writer for SFA’s student publication, The Pine Log, covering numerous stories. She was also involved in public relations working on the campaign for the Bright Ideas Conference doing research and using numerous PR tools for the conference. Rachel worked with SFATV-2 in their research for a TV series focusing on African Americans and she also has experience in photo journalism, where her work was published on SFASYOU.com.
In her spare time she loves to coach tennis and photography. She said she loves working with younger kids especially to help them develop the proper technique at an early age, but she also enjoys coaching teenagers and adults because she can do even more with them. She had numerous best-class photos when she took digital photography in college and she says, “It’s a passion of mine, I’m the girl who never leaves her camera behind.”
Rachel loves everything about public relations and always goes the extra mile to do what needs to get done in whatever she is doing. She works well with others and is always positive no matter the situation.
